There's a reason why you probably got a bad haircut or ended up with something you didn't want if you went to a discount haircut store (they don't qualify to be called a salon). Their personnel are poorly or barely trained and are used to quick jobs. If they take tto long with your hair then they can actually lose money. Whether you are a man or woman, your hair can and will make or break you (a quote from Jonathon of the famous TV haircut reality show Blowout).
As much or more so than your clothes define you, your hairstyle, color, length, etc... are the frame to your most important feature – your face. A bad haircut can make you look cheap, undesirable, dirty, and so on. Why would anyone want to risk a feature as important as their hair to a $5 or $10 barber or haircut store?
Tip number 1, never go to a cheap haircut store. Go to a salon and find a professional hairdresser (cosmetologist)that you not only get along with, and that not only gives great haircuts and styles, but that, more importantly, makes you look amazing and loves what they do! This is why some professional hairstylists like Matrix's Mark Townsend can charge hundreds for a great cut and have celebrities like Reese Witherspoon lining up and stepping on each others toes for him to do their hair.
If you want to see the power a nicely done and simple, elegant and beautiful haircut can do just look at Reese Witherspoon's recent sexy, straight style she wore at the Golden Globes. It was the most talked about look of the evening and that instantly catapulted her to super hot celebrity status – and that is a pretty competitive lot!
Now, most people cannot afford $500 to $1,000 and above to have a celebrity hairstylist like Jonathon, Sally Hershberger or Mark Townsend (whom trained under Hershberger) take care of their hair, but they can and should plan on spending $25 to $100 or so (depending on hair length, coloring requirements, etc...) at a local salon or spa.
